Kim Yo Jong, believed to be in her late 20s or early 30s, would be the first member of North Korea's ruling family to visit South Korea since the end of the 1950-53 Korean War.

Athletes from North Korea will be allowed to cross the usually off-limits demilitarized zone between North and South Korea to compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence will also be attending this Friday's PyeongChang 2018 opening ceremony along with North Korea's delegates.

The North Korean delegation was invited for lunch on Saturday, South Korean presidential spokesperson Kim Eui-Kyeom announced Thursday, at a location yet to be disclosed, news agency Yonhap reported.

Kim Yo Jong has been an increasingly prominent figure in North Korea's leadership and is considered one of the few people who has earned Kim Jong Un's absolute trust.

The ministry also said now was not the time to discuss reopening the Kaesong Industrial Park, a joint factory complex closed by South Korea in 2016 in protest over North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

South Korean media have been speculating on whether Kim Jong Un will send a personal message to Mr Moon through his sister and, if so, whether it would include a proposal for a summit between the Koreas. However, some have pointed out that these cabinets do not contain nearly enough supplies to support hundreds or thousands of South Koreans in the event of a crisis.

"(North Korea) are the greatest threat to peace and stability, not just in our region but in the world", Senator Wong said.

Last month, North Korea arbitrarily moved the anniversary of the establishment of the Korean People's Army to Feb. 8.

It began with thousands of goose-stepping troops lined up in Kim Il Sung Square to form words and slogans. "It shows the North's resolve to defuse tension on the Korean peninsula", Blue House spokesman Kim Euikyeom said. "I guess you will see the same here on Friday".

"I am sick of converting this into 'Pyongyang Olympics' and very angry with the orchestra's visit", Won Sun-Kyu, one of the protesters, told Efe, referring to the North's capital.
